Charging and Billing Solutions Real Time has delivered business-critical charging and billing systems to our airport and air traffic customers.
These systems account for £millions of revenue per year, and allow our customers to accurately calculate charges and invoice their airline customers for the use of airports or flight control.
With our experience in airlines, airports and ATC, we are ideally placed to design and deliver these systems, which link aspects of all 3 industries, and use similar data.
Airport Traffic Charging Real Time used its extensive experience of charging systems to develop a new Traffic Charging System for a major airport operator. The Traffic Charging system is used to calculate the charges applicable to each airline using the airport for takeoffs and landings, and other airport-related services, such as aircraft parking and stand usage.
In designing the new Traffic Charging system, Real Time took into account the following system requirements, which greatly enhance the users' capabilities in managing the charging process:
- The Traffic Charging system is fully configurable and parameterised. This is essential as the charging algorithms used at each airport vary, and require to be parameterised independently. The main advantage of this approach is that the customer can configure and manage the majority of the system settings without being dependant on Real Time;
- The Traffic Charging system is capable of supporting different reference data for each airport, if required, although the long-term aim is to rationalise the data between airports. The Traffic Charging system supports the process of data rationalisation as well as the rationalized data model itself;
- The Traffic Charging system is delivered on industry standard software components, web-delivered using a thin-client approach. This minimises the demands on the company WAN/LAN, and allows the Traffic Charging system to run on a variety of desktop PCs;
- The Traffic Charging system is scalable, once again based on industry standard components to allow growth in the future. In this way, the system can be sized to cope with additional airports, flight volumes or new charging algorithms, without the need to re-engineer the entire system.
Airspace Flight Charging systems Real Time developed and supported the Offline Flight Data Processing System (FDPS) and the UK Flight Database for National Air Traffic Services (NATS). Both of these systems calculate the payments which NATS charges to airlines for the use of North Atlantic (FDPS) and UK (UK Flight Database) airspace. Both systems calculate the charges by applying algorithms based on flight details including aircraft type and route taken. The UK Flight database handles upwards of 5000 flights per day and the FDPS system 1000 flights per day. |
